Printmaking Project

This project was fun to me because it reminded me of when I was little and I had made little stamps of butterflies. The first step I did was draw out 2 animals (which was a sea turtle and an elepant) and then I had to find the right postition, of one drawing, that would look good as the final copy. In the end, as you can see, I had chosen to print a sea turtle. Next I had to make my turtle drawing only have black and white color without any value. Then I copied the last drawing of the sea turle and I put it on a linoleum backwards so that when it comes out on the paper it will be in the right direction. After this you would cut out all of the white space in the linoleum, for me I had to cut the black spaces. Then you would paint on a color to the linoleum and put it onto a colorful peice of paper. In my opinion, the complementary colors didnt go well because it was just hard to see. For example, putting bright red paint on a light green peice of paper. I would say the most challenging part of this was finding the right colors that matched because if it didnt look right you would have to clean off the linoleum and start again. My successes was when I finally got one print right because in some of my prints before that there wouldn't be enough paint or the linoleum had moved when I had placed it down on the paper. I learned that you have to be very careful when handling paints and cutting out linoleums because the slightest movement in cutting or painting can be hard to undo.
